I have spent the past months among humanity, and I am quite disappointed. After a great many queries and searching out suitable aspirants, it seems as though this age is rife with a population whom seem content to treat the unknown as naught but a petty diversion or a thing to be mocked out of ignorance.

Thus, my decision is made.

The lot of you are unworthy of the End.

What passionless, empty fools humans have become. Even those of intellectual brilliance are lacking in passion and while away their time on matters wholly of the material realm, blindly blathering on that which cannot be sensed by human sensory organs and machines wrought by human hands does not exist.

Your culture is tainted with such thoughts.

Thoughts which seek for answers.

There are no answers.

You are peasants.

Peasants believed in the unknown and feared it, and justifiably so.

No.

You are less than peasants.

If any among you espouse such ideals as to actually seek out the intangible unknown and to gain a semblance of understanding for a universe greater than the materialist beliefs which have spread throughout your species, I charge you with seeking out such things in a scholarly fashion.

Research these ideas long-buried and unveil powers and entities beyond mortal ken. Learn of societies who dared look into the Darkness and exulted in their fear to espy worlds filled with that which only dreams may begin to duplicate. Study those humans who dared mix the studies of the natural world with the world unseen and their impossible discoveries.

Stoke the flames of your mind and place your energies into questioning the world in all ways possible.

Or carry on as you are and rot from within.

As for myself, I will return to my repose and await a time when either humanity is a withered husk of what it once was or realizes its potential and uplifts itself to heights I have only begun to taste in my long existence.

For those who have asked, I am not related to, or a pseudonym of,  Mr. Welldone. I have wandered the dark for a very long time, and it has taught me a great deal. It has provided experiences you will not find elsewhere. The first time I held a human brain in my hands, soft and glistening, so much smaller than I had imagined. I tilted it gently back from the hole in the skull I had carved, carefully severed the connection to the spinal cord just below the medulla and it fell free. In that instant, all this person had been, all they could have become, every thought, emotion and dream they had ever encompassed, I held in my cupped palms. It was a moment of disgust, revelation, and humility. That was a long time ago, and even then, I had been on my path for years. What other life could offer me such a moment? At the time I wondered, who other than me, would want it? Mr. Welldone’s choice has given me an answer. We are surrounded by these ’slices of the dark’, as Nukey puts it, we are part of something more already, whether we like it or not. The dark is not a destination, or even hidden in the way most think of it. It watches you, it whispers to you, and it breathes softly, just at the threshold of hearing, even as you read this note. The lost, the disturbed and the freaks I have met here are inspiring. The dark has already laid its mark on you, or you would not be here. You certainly wouldn’t continue to return. You have all come through reasons of your own, though the threads are common.. curiousity, boredom, amusement. For those who seek more, what moment have you had that set you on your path? For those who do not seek, or have had no experience, what would you require before you were willing to step into the unknown?

I can appreciate that. I had never considered blogging until I received an e-mail from Mr. Welldone asking me to keep an eye on things while he is away. An unusual request, to say the least. It’s not the strangest thing I’ve ever been asked to do, and I have a thing for the strange, so I tenatively agreed. And now you know a little of why I am here. Not much, but enough for now. Now I ask, why are you here? Not the usual answer, please. I really want to know. Few can identify what they truly seek, though it reflects in every thought and choice they make. It is not what you cannot see in the Dark that you fear.

It seems the masses have comforted themselves with the trite statement “people fear the unknown.” Humanity finds a strange comfort in this statement. If people did indeed fear the unknown, this statement would be akin to locking eyes and spirit with that soul-rending horror which lurks unseen in the back of every human’s mind.

No, it is not what you cannot see in the Dark that you fear.

It is what you will see if you gaze long and hard into it. You will see that thing you “know” you will see. You will attempt to assuage that sting of fear in your mind by numbly assuring yourself that it is simply a figment of the rampant faculties of the subconscious.

It is not.

Yes, we fear the Dark for a reason.

The reason is not what you think it is.

Many fellows, in their markedly-less-than infinite wisdom, choose to prove their gender and sexual orientation by seeking out a locale rumored to be frequented with events of the “supernatural.” What a loathsome and paradoxical term, ”supernatural.” How can a thing be “above nature” when it is naturally occurring?

I digress.

Many such “brave” souls who set out in search of the nocturnal thrills of the unknown find that there is little to fear, despite the cold sweat they feel, and choose to take this evidence as the answer to whether or not the “supernatural” exists in our shared perception of the world.

What fools.

Indeed, if one steels themselves overmuch, such an individual may find that he or she never will see anything beyond the mundane. It is those that embrace their fear that find much more startling evidence supporting the possibility of earthly entities and energies beyond our current understanding.

Fear is more than a biological warning to impending danger; it is a sense, little different than the five most people are familiar with. To ignore one’s fear is to close one’s eyes to such secrets possessed of beauty beyond most mortals’ imaginations.

And so I impart this advice upon those who wish to confirm the existence of the “supernatural.”

Exalt yourself in your fear.

Stoke its fires and seek out the Darkness.

You will see such wonderful things.
